Chances are, you have a friend or relative who works at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc., so you know that Toyota builds some of the most American-made cars in the industry. But, did you know Toyota's investment in the United States goes far beyond manufacturing?
The Toyota Camry and Toyota Avalon assembled in Kentucky are not the product of blueprints sent over from Tokyo, to simply be built domestically. In fact, the 2016 Avalon and the 2015 Toyota Camry were both designed at CALTY Design Research, Inc. in Michigan.
Calty started out as a single, small design studio in California in 1973 -- even before domestic manufacturing began. After designing the smash-hit 1978 Toyota Celica, Toyota continued to grow its American-based design teams. Today, there are three Calty campuses, which you can learn about in the behind-the-scenes video above.
