Meet Toyota's midsize truck: the 2020 Toyota Tacoma

Toyota makes two trucks: the full-size Toyota Tundra and the smaller Toyota Tacoma. At our Somerset KY location, the midsize Toyota Tacoma is our most well-stocked option, and it's perfect for shoppers who want the usefulness of a truck bed, the city-friendly midsize exterior, and enough power to accomplish a surprising number of tasks around Danville KY and beyond, without getting into something as large as the Tundra. Let's get to know the 2020 Toyota Tacoma so you can schedule a test drive.

Performance & Capabilities

The 2020 Tacoma has two engines. The 2.7L is best suited for people who are mostly going to use the truck bed and forgo towing, as the specs include 159 horsepower, 180 lb-ft torque, and towing up to 3,500 pounds. If you do need more towing capabilities, the 3.5L V6 has 278 horsepower, 265 lb-ft torque, and the ability to trailer up to 6,800 pounds between London KY and Richmond KY.

Like most midsize trucks worth their salt, the Tacoma has a few off-road friendly options. There's the TRD Off-Road Access and the TRD Pro. Depending on which one you buy, there's tuned shocks by Bilstein or FOX, an electronic locking rear differential, skid plates, Active Traction Control, coils/springs, and even a hood scoop or snorkel to provide function and great looks. Whether you want to make trips to the home improvement store, help a friend move apartments, or hit the trails, the Tacoma is ready for your plans.

Interior & Exterior Style

While full-size trucks tend to go for a more imposing and refined look, midsize options are known for their fun-loving and rough around the edge's vibe. The Tacoma's grille is in your face and blocky, you can get an optional snorkel on the top trim, and there are some fun colors that don't take themselves too seriously. Basically, the Tacoma and its looks regularly appeals to shoppers who want a rugged truck that's ready for challenging adventures around Kentucky or right over border in Oneida TN.

The inside follows suit, and we like the wide dash layout, big buttons and knobs, and optional color accents if you need some added aesthetics. If you want a little more refinement, several trims have a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and the top two trims have leather seating.

Convenience Technology

The Tacoma has a solid list of standard convenience features. There's a backup camera, Bluetooth so you can make hands-free calls, a touchscreen that uses Toyota's Entune platform, and Hill Start Assist technology. There's even a multi-informational dash display so you can stay attuned to your Tacoma. As you move up the lineup you can get Tire Pressure Monitoring for each individual tire (no more having to guess which one is low), a wireless charging pad for your smartphone, rear parking sonar, and a smart key that's paired with a push-button start system. Like most new Toyota vehicles, the Tacoma has many package options on select trims, so don't hesitate to contact us and see how your Tacoma can come with even more.

Just because you own a truck doesn't mean you want to forgo advanced safety technologies! Luckily, the 2020 Tacoma comes well-equipped. All models have the standard Toyota Safety Sense Package of advanced technologies. They'll give you even more peace of mind as you commute from your Lexington home. Our sales team will gladly show you how to turn on and uses these safety advancements.

This midsize truck wasn't an afterthought for the Toyota brand. There are several trims, and each has its own unique offerings that bring aboard more technology, off-roading charm, or premium looks. The trims are:

  • SR
  • SR5
  • TRD Sport
  • TRD Off-Road
  • Limited
  • TRD Pro
  • The Limited and TRD Pro are only available in the Double Cab, and the remaining trims can get the Double Cab or Access Cab. At our dealership we carry a mix, though the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road are some of our more well-stocked options.
